Why Bilancia?

When we moved aboard our Manta 42 MKII it was named the Tandem II. I know, I know, it’s bad luck to change the name of a vessel. But this is quite possibly the “forever” sailing vessel, so I think karma may forgive me this one time.

A little backstory: We moved to the state of Vermont after leaving the Caribbean after our first sailing adventure. As beautiful as Vermont is, the winters are harsh and very long. Doesn’t set well with a-couple of summer buffs like us. After spending five winters there we started longing for the sea and sailing life again. Not to mention, escaping the Vermont winters. So we decided to return to the Southern seas that we love so much and become live-aboard snowbirds. In my opinion, it is the best of both worlds. Beautiful Vermont summers and falls and gorgeous sailing in the winter down South. Perfection! Just a few logistics to sort out….right! Ha!

So the name Bilancia is fitting for our new lifestyle. It is an old latin word for “balance”. A little North and a little South, a little land and a little sea, a little ying and a little yang. The symbol that you see scattered throughout this blog is an ancient galetic symbol for balance. Hope that clears is all up! Happy sailing!
